Peña Nieto also praised the efforts to curve it down by the national security forces.

Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto admitted that organized crime "still threatens society" in some areas of the country.

During the ceremonies for the 101 Anniversary of the Defense of the Port of Veracruz, Peña Nieto said that the authorities have joined forces to reduce violence and create better conditions for social coexistence.

At the headquarters of the Heroic Naval School, the President emphasized that the security policies are "moving on the right path" because during the first quarter of 2015 the preliminary investigations into allegations of intentional murder have been reduced 27% and the kidnappings fell by almost 24%, both in regard to the same period in 2012.

Peña Nieto stressed that 93 of the 122 most dangerous offenders of the country have been arrested, or in some cases killed, to date.

"These are clear examples of positive results and major shocks against the command structures of all the organized crime groups that, unfortunately, operate in the country," he said.

Accompanied by the Ministers of Defense, Navy, Interior, Education and Finance, Peña Nieto expressed his "greatest appreciation to the elements of the federal forces whose work has enabled us to reduce violence. In particular, I recognize the members of the Navy and Army for their support to this institutional effort".
