Manuel Velasco Coello said that it was an 'accidental incident'.

The governor of Chiapas, Manuel Velasco Coello, offered a public apology to one of his assistants, identified as Luis Humberto, after a video were he is shown slapping him in the face went viral.

During the presentation of a basic food support program, Velasco Coello apologized for the incident, recorded in December.

"On December 9 we had the rebuttal of our government report in Huixtla and I want to present today, before you, a public apology to Luis Humberto, reiterating the apology I presented him on December 9 for the regrettable accidental incident of December 9 in Huixtla," expressed the governor.

The young man was standing next to the governor and jokingly simulated a slap on the face of Velasco Coello.

The video, recorded on a mobile phone, presents Velasco Coello behind a mesh barrier saluting people, when a woman dressed in red pulls his arm and the governor leads her to a young man walking behind him, presumably Luis Humberto.

After indicating the woman to talk to his assistant, unexpectedly, the governor slaps the young man in the face and, while walking, he is seen recriminating Luis Humberto, who follows him.

Velasco Coello is considered a contender for the next presidential elections in Mexico.
