The attorney for boxer Carlos Molina told a judge in Las Vegas that the defense hopes to get the Wisconsin warrant withdrawn and be able to continue with the immigration proceedings so Molina can be released from jail.
Molina continues to be detained in a jail in Las Vegas following his arrest on March 4 for a January of 2007 arrest warrant issued by Wisconsin which accuses him of failing to register as a sex offender. The judge on Tuesday scheduled another hearing on Thursday to review Molina's case.
Molina missed a March 8 fight to defend his IBF Light Middleweight Title against Jermall Charlo in Las Vegas. The 30-year-old Molina was born in Michoacan, Mexico. The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in California informed that he was deported in 2006.
ICE also said that if he is released from jail, Molina will face additional immigration proceedings.
