The Mexican government signed an agreement with both companies to improve its alert system.

The Mexican government signed agreements with Aeromexico and Google to obtain weather alerts, said David Korenfeld Federman, general director of the National Water Commission (Conagua).

Aeromexico planes will be equipped to generate "real-time weather alerts every time they fly over Quintana Roo or another state", said Korenfeld.

He added that an agreement was also signed with Google to spread alerts in a more effective way.

Until 2013 there have been 209 tropical cyclones, 75 storms, 57 category 1 and 2 hurricanes and 20 category 3, 4 and 5 hurricanes in Mexico. Baja California has been hit by the largest number of hurricanes, 40, followed by Sinaloa and Quintana Roo, with 38.

During the inauguration of the 36th. meeting of the Hurricane Committee of the fourth region of the World Meteorological Organization in Cancun, Korenfeld said that Mexico has always been vulnerable to tropical cyclones and that all experts coincide that the intensity and destruction potential of these meteorological phenomena will increase.
