The Brazilian President is looking to improve the bilateral relationship.

The President of Brazil, Dilma Rousseff, began on Monday a two-day state visit to Mexico, in which both nations seek to strengthen their bilateral and economic relationships.

The official aircraft of the Brazilian president landed at 6:47 p.m. in the International Airport of Mexico City (AICM), under a heavy rain.

Rousseff was received by Foreign Minister José Antonio Meade, the vice minister of State for Latin-America, Vanessa Rubio, and the Secretary of Environment and Natural Resources, Juan José Guerra Abud.

This is Rousseff's first visit to Mexico in her two terms, even though it will represent her fifth meeting with President Enrique Peña Nieto.

Rousseff will meet Peña Nieto on Tuesday and Wednesday, in order to discuss the strengthening of the bilateral relationship, and she will also meet the mayor of Mexico City and attend a session of Congress.

During this state visit, the governments of both nations will endorse the historical ties of friendship between Brazil and Mexico, strengthen the political dialog and the bilateral legal framework, as well as announce actions to maximize trade, investment and tourism.

Together, Mexico and Brazil represent 62% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the Latin-American region, 55% of its population and 55% of its territory. In 2014, both nations recorded a bilateral trade of US$9,213 million.

Mexico invests in Brazil more than $30 billion, a figure that ranks the country as one of the principal global investors in the South-American nation.
