The woman who created the fake Facebook profile that was used to hook Eduardo
Gómez Muñetón, a 17-year-old high school student who was killed after being
kidnapped for five days, was identified as Verónica Alejandra Martínez.
Federal authorities discovered that the woman used the same modus
operandi to lure other victims who were also kidnapped by the gang she belongs
to.
Martínez is the wife of gang leader, Víctor Hugo Martinez, who has been
arrested along with his cousin, Fredy Martínez Gutiérrez. Antonio Martínez Gutiérrez,
brother of Victor Hugo, remains at large.
The parents of the victim reported his disappearance to Mexico City and
federal authorities, but after realizing that none of the two agencies was working
on the case, they started their own investigation.
With the help of an expert they hacked Eduardo's Facebook account and discovered
that he had agreed to meet a woman near the Popotla subway station.
From there he was taken to a safe house in Huixquilucan where his
kidnappers kept him for five days, after which they strangled him and dumped
his body at the Cerro de la Campana.
Unaware that their son had been killed, his parents paid part of the
ransom demanded by the kidnappers on November 24.
