Raúl Alonso Jiménez will play for the Atlético de Madrid as the third
most expensive Mexican player in history.
According to reports in the Spanish press, the Spanish team paid 14
million dollars for Jiménez, which place him under Carlos Vela, for whom the Real
Sociedad de San Sebastián paid 14.7 million dollars.
The most expensive Mexican player is Nery Castillo, who was sold to Ukraine's
Donest Shaktar for 20 million dollars.
Roger Roa, sports marketing expert and CEO of DreaMatch Solutions,
believes that the price paid for Jiménez may be the excuse "Mexicans need
to sell themselves better in the European market. Everything will depend on his
performance. Europe does not quite believe in Mexican players; for many years
we were isolated, but if he has a good performance, he will open borders for
others. He has this responsibility on his back."
The top ten is completed by Héctor Herrera (Porto); Javier Hernández (Manchester
United); Diego Reyes (Porto); Andrés Guardado (Deportivo La Coruña); Giovani Dos
Santos (Tottenham); Rafael Márquez (Barcelona) and Pablo Barrera (West Ham
United).
According to the father of Jiménez, who acts as his representative, the
signing has not been made official yet, "due to a few details that we need
to analyze."
In recent months the América has cashed in 23 million dollars with the
sales of Diego Reyes to the Porto (9.6 million dollars), and now Raúl.
